Job description
Job summary The post holder will provide effective clinical leadership and management within the Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU), acting as a senior clinical practitioner and role model to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based and compassionate maternity care. The Band 7 Midwife will be responsible for the assessment, management and ongoing care of women and birthing people attending the MAU with a range of pregnancy-related concerns and complications. They will undertake comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments, recognise and respond promptly to changes in clinical condition, initiate appropriate care and ensure timely escalation to senior medical staff and the wider multidisciplinary team when required. Working collaboratively with midwives, obstetricians, neonatologists and other healthcare professionals, the post holder will promote individualised, woman-centred care and support effective multidisciplinary working. They will ensure care is delivered in accordance with clinical guidelines, safeguarding requirements, infection prevention and control standards, and relevant local and national policies, while maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation. Main duties of the job o Provide expert midwifery assessment, care and advice to women attending the Maternity Assessment Unit.o Undertake comprehensive assessment, recognise clinical deterioration and initiate appropriate management and escalation.o Ensure care is provided in accordance with Trust policies, national guidance, professional standards and evidence-based practice.o Act as an effective clinical role model, demonstrating high standards of professional practice.o Provide appropriate advice, information and support to women and their families, ensuring informed choice and shared decision making.o Ensure appropriate investigations, observations and clinical assessments are undertaken and documented.o Liaise effectively with obstetricians, anaesthetists, neonatal teams and other members of the multidisciplinary team.o Ensure timely escalation of clinical concerns and facilitate appropriate admissions, transfer or discharges.o Promote safe and effective patient flow through the Maternity Assessment Unit.o Ensure accurate, contemporaneous documentation and effective communication at all times.o Support the management of complex and high-risk pregnancies in accordance with local and national guidance.o Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and escalate concerns appropriately.
