Job summary We are delighted to be seeking a new colleague to join our expanding team of substantive consultants based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. This newly created post adds to our existing team of nine consultants working across the East area of the Health Board, reflecting our ongoing commitment to service development and improvement. This opportunity arises from our plans to reconfigure and strengthen current services, with a particular focus on enhancing our well-established provision in general geriatrics and rehabilitation. We are committed to embracing innovation and modern ways of working. Within the team, we already support a variety of flexible working arrangements, including less than full-time and annualised consultant contracts. In addition, we have introduced three consultant therapist roles, further supporting our multidisciplinary approach to patient care. While we have recently expanded our workforce, we are also progressing a business case to secure additional funded consultant posts. This forms part of our strategic aim to future-proof our services and ensure we can meet the increasing demands associated with an ageing population. Main duties of the job Deliver a consultant-led Geriatric Medicine service at Wrexham Maelor Hospital for the diagnosis and management of both outpatients and inpatients. Work within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and managers to further develop Care of the Elderly services. There are many areas of future growth for our department and a successful candidate will be welcome to play an integral part in shaping future services. Participate in the general medical on-call rota and post-take ward rounds, providing leadership and support to the on-call medical team. Take consultant responsibility for allocated inpatients, with support from a designated team of junior doctors. Contribute to the teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students. Many consultants are Educational and Named Clinical Supervisors to junior doctors, and most consultants are offered honorary undergraduate clinical teacher status with Cardiff University.
