Position Responsibilities: The Educational Audiologist is responsible for serving deaf and hard-of-hearing students at the Washington School for the Deaf (WSD) campus. Duties include performing comprehensive audiological evaluations, writing professional reports, explaining evaluation results, providing audiological counseling for students and families, consulting with parents and appropriate staff, and attending Individualized Educational Program (IEP) and 504 planning meetings. The Educational Audiologist fabricates ear molds, provides hearing aid support services, manages the school-wide FM/DM System, performs technology troubleshooting and repairs to meet amplification needs as requested, and assists with designing programs and services for WSD students utilizing hearing assistive technology. This role will also facilitate the launch of the new Audiology Clinic at the campus site, opening in early 2027. The clinic will eventually deliver professional audiology services to the community, with a focus on infants through school age students up to the age of 22. This position is also responsible for providing direct, culturally competent communication and instruction with students in their preferred language/modality and working collaboratively across transdisciplinary teams to support student success. The Educational Audiologist is a resource for students, staff, outside providers and parents, often serving as a liaison between the medical and educational communities. Examples of duties Provides ongoing professional communication with parents and school staff using American Sign Language (ASL) and written English. Serves as the Special Education Facilitator (SEF), providing leadership and coordination for Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and IEP team processes to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and school requirements. Coordinates with outside agencies and organizations for additional resources as needed. Consults with school staff and participates in IEP/504 meetings. Helps school staff understand the potential educational and social-emotional impact and considerations related to an individual’s hearing difference and assists them in addressing these in the classroom. Provides evaluation and audiological counseling for students and families enrolled in our K-12 and early involvement programs. Bills Medicaid on an as needed basis. Qualifications WA State ESA School Audiologist certification. Knowledge of principles, techniques, and methods of audiology in the educational environment. Doctoral (PhD) or master’s degree, with active licensure enabling both clinical and educational practice. Ability to communicate effectively with students, school staff, parents, and school district personnel using ASL and written English. Ability to use technology effectively. Knowledge of the unique educational needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students including knowledge of ASL, Deaf culture and community. Ability to maintain written records and progress notes regarding goals and therapy strategies on students served. Must have an operating knowledge of a variety of audiometric instruments and related materials. Experience working with students including implementing IEPs, collaborating with an educational team, maintaining records, and preparing reports and correspondence. Ability to use professional judgment and carry out all assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision while maintaining confidentiality. Salary Information: Certificated employees are paid in accordance with the Vancouver Public Schools Salary Scale . Certificated staff receive 12-month pro-rated salary and are designated as overtime-exempt employees. Please note that the listed salary is based on a full 193-day annual schedule. As this position will begin mid-year, the final compensation package will be calculated on a prorated basis using the determined daily rate.
