Job summary The post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. For full details about the role, please refer to the attached draft job description. Main duties of the job The following are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols Maintaining accurate patient records on TPP SystmOne The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidancewhen necessary for patient related matters About us Cambridge Medical Group provides care to 7,400 patients across Middlesbrough and the immediate area. The postholder will work independently to collect blood samples from patients, ensuring accurate labelling, recording, and timely dispatch of specimens to support diagnosis and ongoing clinical care. Key Responsibilities Perform venepuncture on patients in line with clinical guidance and infection control standards. Ensure samples are correctly labelled, recorded, and prepared for collection by the laboratory. Accurately update patient records on the clinical system (SystmOne). Maintain equipment, stock levels, and cleanliness of the phlebotomy area. Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure a smooth and efficient service. Provide reassurance and information to patients, ensuring dignity, privacy, and comfort at all times. Report any abnormal findings, incidents, or concerns to the appropriate clinician or manager. Adhere to all practice policies, including infection control, health and safety, confidentiality, and safeguarding.
