Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and innovative senior nurse to join Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust as Emergency Department Matron. The post holder will provide visible clinical and operational leadership across the Adult and Paediatric Emergency Departments, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. Working as a key member of the Emergency Care leadership team, you will lead on patient safety, quality, workforce development, patient flow, governance and service improvement, whilst supporting staff to deliver excellent outcomes for patients and families. Main duties of the job The Emergency Department Matron will provide visible clinical and operational leadership across the Adult and Paediatric Emergency Departments, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality care and an excellent patient experience. Key responsibilities include: Leading patient safety, quality, governance, safeguarding and workforce agendas across Emergency Care. Providing professional leadership to nursing and clinical support teams, promoting high standards of care and professional practice. Driving patient flow, capacity management and escalation processes to support delivery of urgent and emergency care performance standards. Ensuring safe staffing, workforce development, recruitment, retention and staff wellbeing. Leading quality improvement, service transformation and innovation initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and experience. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partners to deliver effective, patient-centred emergency care services. Monitoring performance, managing risks and ensuring compliance with national standards, regulatory requirements and Trust objectives. Acting as a senior nursing leader and role model, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, inclusion and compassionate leadership. About us Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof.
