Job summary Westbourne Medical Centre offers an exciting opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. As a growing GP practice serving patients across North Ormesby and Middlesbrough, you will work alongside a well-established team that values collaboration and high-quality patient care. The role is Monday and Thursday 8:30am - 5:30pm. Main duties of the job Healthcare Assistants support GPs and Practice Nurses by delivering a range of patient services, with a particular focus on in-house phlebotomy. Duties may include venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, recording height and weight, lifestyle advice, long term conditions management etc. The role also plays a key part in maintaining high standards of infection control and ensuring the smooth running of clinical services within the practice. About us Our Practice consists of 2 GP Partners and 2 salaried GP's,1 Nurse Practitioner, 1 Practice Nurse and 1 Healthcare Assistant. We have our own Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician. We also have the benefit of a Social Prescriber, a First Contact Physiotherapist and Mental Health Practitioner Team. The team is supported by the Operational Manager and full management team and receptionists. On occasion, there may be a requirement to carry out tasks not listed below, that are within the reasonable scope of the role. Undertake new patient health checks Phelbotomy Support the practice nursing team with health promotion programmes Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, and record finding accurately Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required Support the practice nursing team with the management of chronic disease clinics Carry out BMI checks as directed Act as a chaperone when required Undertake venepuncture once trained Administer flu vaccinations once trained Carry out ECGs as requested Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation Provide support during minor operations as required Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session Ensure fridges are routinely cleaned in accordance with current guidance Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with practice IPC policy Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate In addition to the core responsibilities, the HCA may be requested to; 1. Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead 2. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care 3. Support and participate in shared learning throughout the organisation 4. Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role, ensuring work is delivered in a timely and effective manner 5.
