Job summary We are seeking to appoint a fulltime Registered Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Anaesthetic Nurse to join the Heavitree Day Case Team. The post holder will work closely with the Day Surgery team to deliver a highquality, safe service for patients undergoing surgical procedures. This includes supporting the perioperative patient pathway and contributing to difficult airway management, with full training and support provided. The post holder will be responsible and accountable for delivering care to adult and paediatric surgical patients without direct supervision. They must adhere to Trust policies and procedures and work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team within the Day Surgery Unit. In addition, they will be expected to participate in the training and development of students and other team members. More detail about the role We are seeking to appoint dynamic, dedicated registered operating department practitioner / registered anaesthetic nurse. The successful candidate will plan and manage the implementation of individual care programmes for patients undergoing surgery, working as part of the multidisciplinary team within the Day Surgery Unit. You will also need the flexibility to support the Day Surgery Units in Exmouth and Tiverton, as well as main theatres, when required. You will play a key role in delivering highquality care within a professional, supportive and friendly environment, with full training and ongoing support provided by our Clinical Educators. This post requires enthusiasm, motivation, excellent communication skills and a commitment to working flexibly within a multidisciplinary team. The role also offers an excellent worklife balance, with no unsociable hours such as weekends, bank holidays or night shifts. Heavitree Day Case Unit comprises three theatres and a pain suite. The Royal Devon has secured a £20m investment from NHS England to develop a Centre of Excellence for Day Surgery, which will include two additional theatres for both children and adults at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Heavitree). The Heavitree Day Case Unit provides a wide range of day case surgical procedures across multiple specialties, including Upper GI, Orthopaedics, Plastics, Urology, ENT (Adults and Paediatrics), Maxillofacial surgery and pain procedures, including permanent spinal cord implant surgery. The Unit currently operates from 07:30 to 19:00, with plans to extend opening hours to 20:00 to support theatre lists across specialties under general, regional and local anaesthesia. The essential qualifications needed are C&G 752 ODA or NVQ Level 3 ODP or Registered General Nurse, Diploma/Degree Level or Equivalent.
