Job summary We are looking to recruit a Bio-Skills Laboratory Co-Ordinator to work 30 hours per week. The role is primarily Monday - Friday but does involve weekend working. This role covers a wide range of duties relating to the co-ordination and running of cadaveric workshops within the Bioskills Laboratory. It includes both technical and clerical duties. Providing efficient and accurate support to Wrightington Consultants, other Trust colleagues and Industry Partners. A key aspect of this role is the ability to work in an emotionally challenging environment with the ability to handle prosected human cadaveric specimens. With a responsibility to uphold the legal regulations as set out by the Human Tissue Authority Main duties of the job This role covers a wide range of duties associated with the supervision of the Bioskills Lab. There are aspects of this role that will involve the management and physical handling of prosected human cadaveric tissue which some may find emotionally challenging, this includes the removal and cleaning of bodily fluids and tissue. Exposure to unpleasant odours and visually upsetting scenes. Recording of information is a key part of this role. Maintaining accurate records and some data entry for multiple databases will be a key role within the post holders' duties to support statutory compliance with the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), Governance and other relevant quality standards. Maintain HTS statutory documentation relating to cadaver information and records, including processing movement of cadavers from receipt to disposal. Ensure accurate completion of all documentation and records, participate fully in all compliance audits and produce compliance reports as required. Ensure the application of privacy, dignity and compliance of confidentiality when undertaking responsibilities. To maintain accurate and complete documentation to support compliance with HTA governance, local standard operating procedures and other relevant quality standards. Responsible for the preparation of the bioskills laboratory for cadaveric workshops. Responsible for maintaining and ensuring equipment used is fit for purpose. Responsible for managing stock levels of consumables and ordering accordingly. Responsible for the co-ordination, receipt and putting away of deliveries. To actively participate in the development of local standard operating procedures and audit of practice. To assist surgeons with pre-dissection of cadaveric tissue in preparation for teaching purposes. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the Bioskills Laboratory including removal and cleaning of surgical areas, tissue and bodily fluids. Responsible for maintaining the quality of cadaveric tissue through appropriate cleaning and understanding of the freeze/thaw process. Responsible for the legal disposal of spent specimens in accordance with HTA and trust waste policies.Responsible for cross referencing paperwork relating to cadaveric tissue, checking serial numbers correlate to specimens and infectious diseases screening checks have been carried out and are acceptable for lab use. Respond quickly and appropriately to any lab misuse or accidents.To provide efficient and accurate support to Wrightington Consultants and doctors.
