Job summary Aldergate Medical Practice is a busy and friendly training practice serving approximately 14,200 patients. Our clinical team includes six GP partners alongside 3 salaried GPs and a wider multidisciplinary team. Due to one of our secretarial team retiring, we are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Secretary to join our supportive team. This is an important role within the practice, providing high quality secretarial and referral support to our GPs and wider clinical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and monitoring patient referrals, managing clinical correspondence and liaising with patients, clinicians, hospitals and other healthcare services. Main duties of the job Process referrals generated by GPs and other clinicians accurately and promptly. Use the NHS eReferral Service eRS and other appropriate referral systems. Process and manage Advice & Guidance requests. Ensure referrals are directed to the appropriate service and pathway. Check referral documentation for completeness and identify missing information. Liaise with clinicians where clarification or additional clinical information is required. Monitor and action rejected, returned or incomplete referrals. Follow up referrals where necessary to support continuity of patient care. Maintain accurate records of referrals and actions taken within the patient's clinical record. Liaise with hospitals, community services and other healthcare providers regarding referrals. Respond appropriately to patient enquiries relating to the progress or administration of their referral. Provide an efficient secretarial service to GPs and other members of the clinical team. Prepare, type and process clinical correspondence, referral letters and other documentation. About us Aldergate Medical Practice is a well established GP training practice based in Tamworth, providing primary care services to a diverse population of approximately 14,200 patients. We are a six-partner practice supported by 3 salaried GPs, nursing and healthcare staff, a clinical pharmacist, supported by a prescriptions team and an experienced administrative and reception team. Prepare, type and process clinical correspondence, referral letters and other documentation. Process incoming and outgoing clinical correspondence appropriately. Ensure documentation is attached, filed and recorded accurately within the clinical system. Deal with telephone calls and correspondence from hospitals and other healthcare organisations.
