Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join the Diabetes and Endocrinology (D&E) Service within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) as a Locum Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology. The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital, with opportunities to provide specialist inpatient support and clinical leadership through in-reach services at The Grange University Hospital (GUH) and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (YYF). The role offers a varied and rewarding clinical workload, including delivering specialist D&E outpatient clinics across ABUHB acute hospital sites and community settings. The post holder will work as part of a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality patient care across both inpatient and outpatient services. The successful candidate will contribute to the Diabetes Inpatient Care and Education (DICE) rota at GUH on a 1 in 10-week basis. During this week, inpatient diabetes care responsibilities will replace scheduled outpatient clinic commitments. You will be joining a well-established and supportive department comprising of 10 Consultants and 2 speciality doctors, providing excellent opportunities for peer support, service development, teaching, and innovation within a progressive and patient-focused service. This post offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic clinician to contribute to the continued development of D&E services across one of the largest health boards in Wales. Main duties of the job Clinical To support the development and delivery of Diabetes and Endocrinology services and take part in the delivery of a comprehensive acute medicine service To share the responsibility for acute +/- general medicine patients admitted to acute medicine wards To participate and lead in the acute medical take To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's agreed objectives All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision Teaching/Training To provide conditions for improved training opportunities in line with national and local recommendations arising out of Shape of Training (SoT) and related requirements To participate in the undergraduate teaching programme To assist and participate with the development of postgraduate training for F1s, F2s, SpRs, STs and other staff as appropriate Where agreed, to act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle grade medical staff Strategic Use their clinical expertise to play an essential part in the provision of strategic planning, implementation, deliveryand evaluation of existing and services within the Directorates About us Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is a multi-award winning NHS organisation with a passion for caring.
