Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our welcoming and supportive team, working with adults with learning disabilities across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. This community-based role offers the opportunity to develop specialist clinical skills in both communication and dysphagia, supporting individuals to achieve safer swallowing, improved communication, and greater independence in their everyday lives. You will manage a varied and rewarding caseload, working both autonomously and as part of a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team. You will be supported through a robust supervision structure, including regular clinical supervision from an experienced Speech and Language Therapist, as well as peer support within a well-established team. This is a rare Band 5 opportunity within our service and is ideal for a therapist looking to develop specialist skills in learning disabilities within a values-driven organisation committed to Caring, Learning, and Growing. Main duties of the job Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for adults with learning disabilities who present with communication and/or dysphagia needs. Develop and implement person-centred care plans, promoting safety, well-being, and quality of life. Undertake dysphagia assessments, including risk assessment, management, and the provision of guidance, in line with current evidence-based practice and professional competencies. Work collaboratively with service users, families, carers, and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated and effective care. Provide training, advice, and support to paid carers and other professionals to promote best practice. Contribute to risk management processes, including safeguarding procedures and positive risk-taking approaches. Maintain high standards of clinical record-keeping, documentation, and reporting. Participate in service development initiatives, audits, and quality improvement activities. Contribute to the supervision and support of students and support staff, as appropriate. Engage in regular clinical supervision, continuing professional development (CPD), and reflective practice.
