Job summary PLEASE NOTE: PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT REAPPLY Band 2 Phlebotomist This is a full time post for 37.5 hours per week. Working pattern - Mondays to Fridays between the hours of 07.00 to 17.00. PLEASE NOTE: This is a Band 2 to Band 3 developmental role - the post holder will be required to complete relevant training/competencies to progress to Band 3. An exciting opportunity as Phlebotomist has arisen to join our Pathology Department. The post holder will be able to: Perform venepuncture under supervision of the senior phlebotomy team and managers as designated; after achieving competence post holder will be expected to work alone when and where required. Follow the general policies and protocols of the department and, in association with the clinical scientific and technical staff, assist in maintaining the highest professional standards. Main duties of the job Post holder will be required to: Collect samples from inpatients, patients attending outpatient clinics.Is required to liaise with clinicians, other healthcare professionals including laboratory staff. Post holder will be required to perform a range of venepuncture techniques in a variety of clinical settings. Be aware of the clinical conditions and precautions that are necessary for sample quality to be maintained during the venepuncture procedure, and develops an awareness of requirements for site selection, correct use of tourniquet and selection of blood sample bottles. Ensure that blood sample bottles are accurately labelled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Ensure that clinical samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Pathology Department. Seek guidance from experienced Phlebotomists as necessary. Be aware of, and works to relevant departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring that personal performance complies with ISO (International standards organisation). You will also be required to perform reception and telephone duties and refer more complex enquiries to a senior member of staff.
