Job summary Due to an increase in requests, we are looking to appoint a part time experienced phlebotomist who is clinically skilled in venous blood taking to work on a Monday and Wednesday morning from 8am 1.15pm, a total of 10.5 hours per week to compliment our existing phlebotomy team. We are seeking a motivated and caring phlebotomist to provide a high quality phlebotomy service for our registered patients ensuring that blood samples are taken safely, efficiently and in accordance with practice protocols. Main duties of the job The key element of this role will be to safely take, collect and store samples of blood in accordance with training and practice procedures. You may also be expected to help with the processing of samples following agreed practice protocols. You will have undertaken phlebotomy training and have recent experience in blood taking. About us We are a small 3 partner, semi-rural practice with a growing population of 7,400 registered patients. Our practice boundary area mainly covers the villages of North Common, Oldland Common, Cadbury Heath, Warmley, Longwell Green, Willsbridge, and up to Bitton. We have a team of clinical GPs, nursing/HCA staff as well as a Clinical Pharmacist and Physiotherapist, a Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager and admin/reception support staff. We also have care co-ordinators attached to the practice via our local PCN. Our practice ethos is very much based around continuity of care, support and good team working. We continue to score highly in the national GP patient satisfaction survey and in our monthly friends and family responses. This is down to the hard work of the entire practice team. We operate from a converted farmhouse in the village of North Common which has plenty of free parking for staff. We are fortunate to have a lovely garden at the front of the practice so in the summer we often have lunch outside. All consulting rooms are situated on the ground floor and there is a small dispensary next to reception. Upstairs houses admin rooms, the staff room and kitchen, plus a room for meetings and training. Duties and responsibilities: Ensure that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures Ensure samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurately and legible label all samples to confirm patient identity Check patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible Record collection of blood sample in patient records in accordance with practice procedure Ensure that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion Process laboratory urine and stool samples and ensure the practices UTI protocol is followed Ensure that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notify the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues Liaise with and assist members of the administrative team Undertake weekly cleaning and re-stocking of consulting rooms in line with the practices infection control policy and ensuring the appropriate paperwork is completed Support and participate in shared learning within the practice including attendance at regular nurse meetings, clinical meetings and staff training afternoons Attend training as required to ensure your skills are maintained Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate to include smoking cessation advice To undertake any additional duties as directed by the nursing team and within the scope of their practice Confidentiality: While seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.
