Job summary As Consultant Vascular Surgeon, you will join a dynamic multidisciplinary vascular surgical team providing a comprehensive elective and emergency vascular service across York, Scarborough and the wider North Yorkshire area. You will provide inpatient and outpatient vascular assessment, deliver acute and elective open and endovascular intervention, and share 24/7 cover for acute and urgent vascular referrals as a core member of the vascular MDT. Main duties of the job To manage the day-to-day care of vascular inpatients at York Hospital. To provide inpatient and outpatient vascular assessment at York Hospital and spoke sites. To provide acute and elective operative intervention for patients requiring major vascular surgery. To provide 24/7 cover for acute and urgent vascular referrals. To provide elective support for complex surgery with the risk of vascular injury for other surgical specialities. To be a core member of the vascular MDT. To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners. All job plans are agreed in line with the Trust's job planning principles. All consultant Vascular Surgeons share hub and spoke work in an equitable manner. Whilst clinical commitments are fixed it is possible to move most admin, SPA and non-NHS sessions without difficulty. It is also possible to discuss contribution to spoke activity on an individual basis to suit living arrangements. Job plans will be reviewed at least annually, following an appraisal meeting. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a Consultant's typical working pattern, duties and responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a Consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities and external commitments. Additional programmed activities will be offered to the post holder for a 12 PA job plan, although 10 or 11 PA job plans are possible with the proviso that full participation in the on-call rota is met. Additional programmed activities will be based on the needs of the service and in line with the Trust objectives and will be reviewed on at least an annual basis. A core 1.25 PAs of SPA time is provided per week for Consultant and SAS grades.
