Job description

Job summary The Medical and Chest Outpatients Department at Hull Royal Infirmary is a busy and diverse outpatient service delivering care across a wide range of medical specialties, including a dedicated respiratory service. The Senior Outpatient Support Worker plays a key role in supporting Registered Practitioners to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality patient care within the outpatient setting. Working under the direction and supervision of Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals, the post holder will contribute to the smooth running of clinics and ensure patients receive a positive and compassionate experience throughout their outpatient journey. The department provides a range of clinical assessments and investigations, including venepuncture, 12-lead ECGs, recording of vital signs, blood pressure monitoring, urinalysis, height and weight measurements, respiratory diagnostics, and chaperoning services. The post holder will undertake these duties in accordance with their level of training, competence, and local policies. Additional clinical skills will only be performed following completion of the appropriate training and competency assessments. Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, the Senior Outpatient Support Worker will support the delivery of patient-centred care, maintaining high standards of safety, dignity, and professionalism at all times. Main duties of the job Support Registered Nurses and healthcare professionals in delivering direct patient care. Assist with clinical assessments and investigations within their scope of practice and competency. Prepare patients for consultations, examinations, and diagnostic procedures. Monitor and record clinical observations and diagnostic procedures accurately, escalating concerns appropriately. Chaperone patients in line with Trust policy. Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming clinical environment. Provide reassurance, information, support to patients and their relatives during their outpatient attendance. Work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure clinics run efficiently and patients receive timely care. Demonstrate a commitment to personal development through participation in training and competency programmes to undertake the following clinical duties within the outpatient setting: Clinical Observations Heart rate monitoring Blood pressure measurement Respiratory rate assessment Temperature recording Oxygen saturation monitoring Weight/Weight measurement BMI calculation Diagnostic and Clinical Procedures Urinalysis Blood glucose monitoring Venepuncture Peak flow measurement Spirometry testing Feno Testing 6-minute walk tests Recording ECGs In return, we offer a comprehensive supernumerary induction programme, ongoing support from experienced colleagues, and opportunities for personaldevelopment within a supportive outpatient team.
