Job Title: Trainee Biomedical Scientist Contract Type: Permanent Applicants who can demonstrate that they already meet the required competencies may be offered a Band 5 contract upon appointment. Main duties of the job This is an exciting opportunity to join our team in the Microbiology Department at UHS as a Trainee Biomedical Scientist. The department processes over 1,000,000 specimens per year. We employ almost 100 staff and provide a comprehensive 7 day service covering bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, serology and parasitology and molecular testing. We are IBMS accredited for pre-registration training and specialist training in medical microbiology, virology and infectious science.The role involves 24/7 working on a shift pattern, including earlies, cores, lates, and night shifts. You will rotate through sections of the laboratory, providing technical support to Biomedical Scientists and working alongside Biomedical Support Workers. Duties will include processing of clinical samples, maintenance of equipment, and training other members of staff when you have gained competence in section. Trainee BMS staff would not lead the shift out of hours. Upon registration you will be the supervisor on shift working alongside an Associate Practitioner and/or Biomedical Support Worker. Candidates must be able to work all these shifts. Weekends and bank holidays are also worked on a rotation. Please note high volume of applications may result in the advert closing early.
