Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Coagulation

Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Coagulation section within Haematology, Blood Sciences at University Hospitals Dorset. Based primarily at the Dorset Pathology Hub at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with occasional support at Poole Hospital, you will join a modern, UKAS-accredited and IBMS-approved training laboratory providing a comprehensive diagnostic service across Dorset. As an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist, you will support the clinical haemophilia, haemostasis and thrombosis service, performing and interpreting a wide range of specialised coagulation investigations. Using advanced analytical equipment and specialist knowledge, you will contribute to the diagnosis and management of patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders, authorise results in line with agreed protocols, and help ensure the delivery of a high-quality, efficient diagnostic service. You will also play an active role in maintaining compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards and supporting continuous service improvement. Main duties of the job The ideal candidate will have a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a BMS, have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Haematology and Transfusion) or have equivalent, proven experience at Band 6 level in Haematology/ Coagulation. Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD) will be expected to be demonstrated at interview. About our team? The Coagulation department is well equipped with Stago Sta R Max coagulation analysers along with a Quantra and a Thrombo-Aggregometer TA-8V. The Coagulation department supports a comprehensive clinical haemophilia service and provides a full range of haemostasis tests, including platelet aggregometry, factor assays, inhibitor studies, thrombophilia, lupus screening, thromboelastography, VWD investigation, anticoagulant monitoring. This role requires HCPC Registration.
