Job summary We are looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly Healthcare Support team as a phlebotomist. Previous phlebotomy or healthcare experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and support will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to learn, develop their clinical skills and build a career in healthcare within General Practice. You will play an important role in providing a professional, reassuring and positive experience for patients attending for blood tests. You will develop the knowledge, practical skills and competency required to undertake phlebotomy safely and confidently. We are looking for someone who is patient-focused, approachable and reliable, with a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to learning and providing high-quality patient care. Experience working with the public and excellent customer service skills are essential. Main duties of the job Undertake venepuncture/phlebotomy safely and effectively within your training, competenceand agreed scope of practice. Provide a caring, professional and reassuring experience for patients attending for blood tests. Correctly identify patients and ensure samples are accurately labelled, recorded, handled and prepared for transportation in accordance with Practice and laboratory requirements. Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality. Accurately record clinical activity and relevant information in the patient's clinical record. Maintain clean, safe and appropriately stocked clinical areas and report any equipment or supply issues. Work effectively with GP Assistants, Nurses, GPs, Healthcare Assistants and the wider multidisciplinary team. Support patients who may be anxious or require additional reassurance. Participate in training, supervision and competency assessments, with a commitment to ongoing development. The role requires a flexible and adaptable approach to meet the changing needs of the service, including responding to changing workloads, priorities and patient requirements. The role will involve undertaking venepuncture, preparing and handling blood samples, maintaining accurate clinical records and supporting patients throughout the blood-taking process. The postholder will also undertake routine health assessment measurements, including recording height, weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), smoking and alcohol status.
